Celebrating 70 Years!

Come Along and Make New Friends!

Dedicated to Amateur Film Making

More Than Just A Club!

Welcome to SAM!

We are an association of amateur film-makers and affiliated film-making clubs from all over Scotland, the Borders and Carlisle. We meet monthly, usually from October through to June in locations throughout the central belt and sometimes further afield.

Our membership is made up of clubs and individuals and has a wide range of abilities and technical know-how. What we may sometimes lack in skills we make up for with our warm welcome and willingness to share our knowledge and passion for making films.

We are also an affiliated club of the IAC and the "Scottish Region of the IAC"

Whether you want to make or learn to make films, show your work, enter competitions or simply watch other peoples films we have something for everyone.

SAM organises many events designed to provide an interesting, informative and entertaining syllabus for our members.

Each season we invite along the very best speakers from across the country and beyond to entertain, enlighten and inform our members on the art of film-making. Whether you want to make an empic blockbuster or just learn some new tricks and tips for making your holiday films more interesting - there's lots to learn when you become a member of SAM.

Please feel free to come along to one of our meetings, and give us a try. We guarantee you won't be disappointed and our SAM teas are legendary!

About Us

SAM is an organisation dedicated to supporting the amateur film-maker in Scotland.
Established in 1949, we've been there through all the different filming formats. But one thing that hasn't changed is the cameraderie you get from being part of an organisation like SAM.
Whether you like to make films, watch films, script them or just to make friends with like-minded people - come along to one of our meetings and have a chat.

Syllabus

We have something for everyone!
Our resources allow us to invite the very best speakers from across the country.
We also organise a competition exclusively for affiliated clubs each year.
Each year we have a social event, usually at Christmas but as this is our 70th - we've got a special social event lined up in November.
As if that's not enough, we also have our Members Competition for you to enter your film into.

The Committee

As members of the SAM Committee, we are all passionate about SAM and all its activities.
Whether it's one of our own members putting on a film presentation or entertaining our well-travelled guest speakers.
Our resources allow us to bring the very best amateur film-makers to Scotland for our members to learn related skills such as lighting, sound, filming techniques - and we always attract the very best there is.
Being in the Committee is not an arduous task - with only a couple of meetings to attend (usually in Edinburgh or via Skype) and we would love to have some new faces on board.
But there's other ways you can help SAM. Helping to set up meeting rooms, assisting with the catering or even just letting us know of an idea you have for an event or a guest speaker - we'd want to hear from you!
If you'd like to volunteer to help, even if in an unofficial capacity, please get in touch or mention it to one of the Committee at the next meeting. You won't regret it and you'll find it very rewarding!
